About us

Tiny Turners was established in 1997 by Karen Clark and Helen Dey. Whilst looking for a nursery for their own children, Karen and Helen realised there was a lack of truly flexible childcare in Teesside. They used their years of childcare experience and qualifications to set up the first Tiny Turners in Redcar. It was one of the first nurseries in the area to offer childcare for children aged 6 weeks to 14 years under one roof, as well as offering a flexi-system to fit around parents' work and other commitments.

The nursery was a success and over the next 10 years, Tiny Turners nurseries opened in Darlington, Marton and Hartburn as well as a stand-alone Out-of-School Club in Redcar.

Tiny Turners now has around 90 staff working with more than 350 children aged 6 weeks to 14 years.

All our nurseries have been rated 'good' by Ofsted.
Children at Tiny Turners thrive in a caring environment. Praise, enthusiasm, confidence and kindness give the children independence and a feeling of being valued.

Working together

Children's needs are met by working in close partnership with parents. Our staff get to know each child and help them to develop socially and emotionally. We understand settling your child into nursery can be stressful and so we give each child a key worker who will them feel at home. Your key worker will also talk to you regularly about your child's development and time at nursery. Each child takes homes a daily diary detailing that day's activiites and meals. A portfolio is kept at the nursery of each child's development - these portfolios help us plan for your child's future development. Once a year we hold parents' evenings where you can discuss your child's achievements and what they will be doing in the coming year. Their porfolio will be available for you to look at and we also prepare a report on your child for you to discuss with us and take away.

Care from baby to school and beyond
All the nurseries have different rooms catering for different age groups, ensuring small groups of children get the maximum attention from staff. In our Baby Rooms we work hard to maintain your child's indiviual routines. The Baby Rooms have designated feeding and sleeping areas, as well as lots of toys to keep your little one entertainted and relaxed. When your child leaves Baby Room and progresses through the nursery, they will be introduced to a wide range of activities including swimming, music, theatre trips, fooball and gymnastics. Your child's progress will be regularly assessed and you will receive a daily diary and annual report showing what they have been doing at nursery and how they are getting on. All our staff are trained from NVQ Level 3 in childcare to Foundation Stage degree and Early Years Professional (EYP) status.

Wraparound care
We offer wraparound care so we can take and collect your child from a nursery school, primary or secondary school. Our Big Katts Clubs also offer a range of fun activities during the school holidays and before and after the school day.

The Tiny Turners Family

We have four day nurseries based in Darlington, Hartburn, Marton and Redcar, which also house breakfast, after-school and holiday clubs (called Big Katt Clubs). We also have a stand alone Big Katt Club in Redcar.  For details see 'our nurseries' at the top of this page.

We cater for children aged from 6 weeks to 14 years and we are one of the only nursery groups in the area to offer truly flexible care to fit around parents' work and other committments. Click here for details.
